A terrorist attack in Copenhagen in February 2015 resulted in broad political consensus to enhance counterterrorism preparedness and protection in order to brace Denmark for a potential similar attack. In order to accommodate this, additional funds were allocated to PET under the multi-annual agreement for 2016-2019.
The most recent agreement, from December 2020 and covering the period 2021-23, provided additional funds for countering the growing espionage threat and developing new technology.
Following the most recent agreement, the annual totals of PET’s financial framework were as follows: DKK 986.5m in 2021, DKK 1,029.1m in 2022 and DKK 1,045.9m in 2023.
