Threats to Denmark

As Denmark’s national security and intelligence service, it is our mission to protect Denmark, the Danish people and our democracy. The threats to our freedom and security are constantly changing. The main threats to our society are terrorism, political extremism and espionage.

The threats are aimed at targets within Denmark but also at Danes and Danish interests abroad and the Danish Realm.

In order to identify and counter threats to Denmark and our national security, PET provides regular assessments of the threats to Denmark.
Terrorism and extremism

One of PET’s main tasks is to prevent and deter terrorism in Denmark. PET assesses that the terrorist threat to Denmark is significant.
Espionage

The threat from foreign intelligence activities against Denmark and the Danish Realm has become more significant.
Illegal foreign interference

In recent years, we have seen numerous examples of “fake news” and misinformation campaigns conducted by foreign intelligence services. These have often been seen in connection with elections in the West, but attempts to misinform have also occurred in other contexts.

Illegal procurement

Some foreign states continuously seek to illegally acquire knowledge, technology and products to strengthen their military capability.
