Warning

When an accident, crisis or disaster occurs, the Danish authorities have the option of warning the public through various public warning systems.

If an emergency incident of a life-threatening nature occurs in Denmark or parts of Denmark, the authorities have the option of warning the population in several different ways.

This can be, for example, in case of fire, explosions, extreme weather or environmental conditions, breakdowns of socially critical systems or in the event of accidents and disasters.

The Danish authorities have the option of warning the public via rooftop sirens as well as via a mobile-based public warning system called S!RENEN. In such situations you will hear the sound of the warning sirens or you will be warned via your mobile phone.

The mobile-based public warning system uses cell broadcast technology to send warnings to mobile phones in an affected area. If you have a newer smartphone with an updated operating system, you will automatically receive warnings over your smartphone if you are in a dangerous area.

A rooftop siren and cell brodcast will always be accompanied by an alert message from the Danish police on this website.

Please note that the Danish authorities test the public warning systems once a year, and it is always on the first Wednesday of May at 12.00 noon.
