Fun fair amusements

Permission from the police is required for setting up a travelling fun fair and similar public fun fair amusements in connection with village fêtes, etc. Permanent public amusements in amusement parks, etc., are subject to annual inspection by the police.

Good to know

Permission from the police is required for setting up mechanical or inflatable structures used for amusement. This is the case for permanent amusements situated in the same place all year as well as for temporary amusements which are set up for a specific event, such as a village fête.

Amusements include bouncing castles, jumping pillows, merry-go-rounds, swings, bungee jumping, climbing walls, water slides, etc.

Please note that you will need permission from the police before the amusement is marketed and put into service.

When permission for an amusement is granted by the police, it is a condition that you have obtained permission from the owner of the land where you wish to place the amusement.

The landowner may be a private individual, a business or an association, such as the local athletics association, or the local authority if it is in a public place. You must observe any terms and conditions for the use of the site determined by the landowner.

In connection with the processing of your application, the police must also approve the site where you want to place the amusements for the sake of safety, such as access routes for emergency management and regulation of traffic in connection with access/exit and parking.

The opening hours usually approved for amusements are 10.00 am to 12.00 midnight. However, the police may determine shorter opening hours for very noisy amusements, etc.

You must make sure to take out business and liability insurance for the amusements.

The liability insurance cover must be at least DKK 5 million for personal injury and DKK 2 million for property damage.

Each amusement must have its own inspection logbook from an accreditation firm which has inspected the amusement to ensure that it is in a reasonable state of repair and condition. The amusement must always have undergone inspection within the past 12 months of the time when it is to be used.

Before you set up the amusement you must obtain approval of the inspection logbook from the police. When the amusement has undergone inspection, you must therefore submit the inspection logbook for approval by the Permit Department (Tilladelser) in your local police district.

In case of new amusements for which no final inspection logbook has yet been issued, Force Technology, the Danish Technological Institute (Teknologisk Institut) or the Nordic Playground Institute (Nordisk Legepladsinstitut) can issue a temporary inspection logbook which must also be approved by the police before the amusement is put into service.
