The Personal Protection Unit

The Personal Protection Unit is a special unit at PET responsible for all national personal protection assignments. As a consequence of the overall significant threat picture and a number of specific threats against public figures in Denmark, PET has seen an increase in the number of assignments related to the protection of individuals and institutions in recent years.

Due to their operational nature, the assignments of the Personal Protection Unit differ from many of the other assignments at PET. However, because of its other fields of activity, PET has special insight into the current threat picture and a vast experience when it comes to preparing and taking action based on threat assessments.

The personal protection assignments primarily concern:

  • The Royal Family
  • The government
  • Other official representatives in Denmark
  • Foreign representations in Denmark
  • The diplomatic corps
  • Individuals under particular threat with a need for personal protection

The personal protection officers follow the person they have been assigned to  all the year round, both nationally and internationally, and they take part in security assignments abroad, for example in connection with state visits and major events.
